Jimmy Neutron
Griffin used to love Jimmy Neutron. It was one of the first shows I can remember him giggling at the appropriate scenes. He loved that show so much that every time we visited Universal Studio’s Theme Park, we had to “enjoy” the (now defunct) Jimmy Neutron ride a dozen times before Griffin would permit us to proceed to the rest of the attractions.

Turns out Griffin still loves Mr. Neutron and his wacky friends but, since he is turning 15 in a few months, Griffin has pronounced, vociferously, that he is too old to watch such a children’s show. We’ve told him repeatedly that it’s okay for him to watch kid’s shows. I even admitted that I was a big fan of Carl and his infatuation with llamas. Nothing worked. Jimmy Neutron will no longer be broadcast on the TV in Griffin’s room. Note: Griffin’s Jimmy Neutron policy is quite baffling considering he spends a good portion of his day playing with blocks, watching old Sesame Street episodes on YouTube, wears a beat up old Cookie Monster shirt to school on a regular basis, and talks incessantly about Kermit the Frog.

There does seem to be a loophole in Griffin’s stated Jimmy Neutron ban. A few days back Lil Sis came to me complaining that her big brother had commandeered her bed and TV and wouldn’t let them watch anything but Jimmy Neutron repeats on Nickelodeon. It seems that, in his mind, as long it was Lil Sis’ TV that was broadcasting that “baby” show in her “baby” room, it would be okay for Griffin to just pop in to sneak a peek or two. Just for nostalgia’s sake, I’m sure. It didn’t seem to bother Griffin that it required physical force and torture of his sister to bring about this happy and nostalgic “coincidence.”

Griff could always come hang with my son – he wants to be Jimmy Neutron for Halloween. Well, Jimmy and Elvis – that’d be quite the hair, don’t you think?

Maybe you could convince him that it’s okay to watch Jimmy Neutron on YouTube? For “research purposes” of course!
